The EMC's defining feature is the optical-sensor precision/amplitude readout on the dial; a unit that cannot complete a monitoring cycle after winding the crank handle has a failed EMC electronic module, not just a dead mechanical movement.
Known issues in the market
The manual-winding generator crank on the case side is a functional part, not decorative -- it must fold out and turn freely to charge the monitoring circuit.
The caseback fine-tuning screw adjusts the active spring length; a screw that has clearly been forced or shows tool marks beyond normal service wear suggests amateur tampering.
