Authentication

The Tudor-signed bracelet clasp is the fastest authenticity check; aftermarket bracelets without Tudor signing are common replacements.

Known issues in the market
  • Aftermarket bracelets are frequently fitted on used Royals; the clasp must be signed Tudor with the rose logo.
  • Cal. T601 is ETA 2824-2-based with Tudor finishing; an unfinished ETA 2824-2 without Tudor signing indicates a movement replacement.
  • The integrated bracelet taper is Tudor-specific; non-Tudor integrated bracelets have different taper angles and link profiles.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Cal. T601 ETA 2824-2 base service is inexpensive and widely available.
  • The integrated bracelet is Tudor-specific; aftermarket replacement with a non-Tudor bracelet affects value.

Last reviewed June 2026

The Royal is Tudor's integrated-bracelet sports watch, occupying the same aesthetic territory as the Datejust but with a distinctly Tudor execution. The integrated bracelet has a brushed center link and polished outer links -- a detail that distinguishes it from simpler all-brushed or all-polished bracelets. The Royal uses a Tudor T601 (ETA 2824-2 base), not an in-house MT5xxx movement.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The Royal is rarely replicated because the price point does not justify high-quality tooling. The main risk is misrepresentation of the Royal as a higher-tier Tudor with an MT5xxx movement.

  • Exhibition caseback on a stated Royal -- the Royal has a solid caseback
  • Crown with a quickset day in addition to a date -- the Royal is date-only
  • Bracelet without the brushed/polished mixed finishing

The Royal with its ETA base is a legitimate choice for its price; the issue is paying an MT5xxx premium for an ETA reference.

Integrated bracelet finishing

Original: The Royal bracelet has brushed center links and polished outer links. The transition between the brushed and polished surfaces is clean and precise. The integrated end links seat flush against the case without any gap.

Replacement tells
  • All-brushed or all-polished bracelet -- the Royal uses a mixed finishing bracelet; a uniformly finished substitute is a replacement
  • Gap between the bracelet end links and the case -- integrated design should be flush
  • Bracelet with a clasp mechanism inconsistent with Tudor's current Royal clasp (a fold-over clasp with Tudor shield engraving)
T601 movement (ETA 2824-2 base)

Original: Tudor T601 is an ETA 2824-2 base, Tudor-finished. 28,800bph, approximately 38 hours power reserve. A reliable workhorse movement but not an in-house MT5xxx caliber. The Royal is transparent about this: it positions itself as an accessible integrated-bracelet sport watch, not a manufacture-movement piece.

Replacement tells
  • Exhibition caseback showing a movement claimed to be a Tudor MT5xxx -- the Royal uses a solid caseback and the T601 ETA base
  • Power reserve significantly under 35 hours from full wind
  • Quickset day complication at crown position 2 -- the Royal has a date only, not a day-date; a day complication indicates a different movement or reference

Case back markings

toggle
2020 to present
  • Solid caseback with Tudor shield at center
  • "TUDOR ROYAL" on the outer ring
  • Reference M28500 and serial number
  • 100M / 330FT water resistance rating

Movement tells

toggle
  • T601 (ETA 2824-2 base), 28,800bph, 38-hour power reserve. This is a Sellita/ETA-based movement, not Tudor in-house. A fully wound Royal should run 35 to 40 hours.
  • The ETA 2824-2 base is one of the most reliable movements in the industry. Service is straightforward and well-supported globally.
  • Quickset date at crown position 2 should correct cleanly. No day complication at any crown position.
