Authentication

All calendar apertures must advance correctly and the flyback reset must be instantaneous; any calendar fault or slow reset indicates a movement issue.

Known issues in the market
  • Richard Mille tracks all serial numbers; secondary market purchases should be verified directly with RM.
  • The flyback reset must be instantaneous; any delay indicates a flyback mechanism fault.

The RM 11-03 carries a flyback chronograph, annual calendar, and skeleton movement in a tonneau titanium case. Reproductions universally use steel or plated metal; weight and magnetic response resolve the case material question immediately.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Steel-cased reproduction with plated finish to simulate titanium.

  • Magnetic response: eliminates the claim immediately
  • Weight above 55g on rubber strap
  • Case finishing shows polishing marks inconsistent with titanium brushing

Richard Mille reproductions have become more sophisticated since 2020, but case material remains the reliable tell: steel is magnetic, titanium is not.

HIGH RISK

Skeleton movement lacking flyback or annual calendar function.

  • No flyback: reset requires three-pusher sequence
  • No annual calendar: month must be corrected every month
  • Movement architecture through skeleton dial inconsistent with RMAC3 bridge layout
MEDIUM

Non-original spline screws on movement bridges.

  • Phillips or hex screws replacing the signature spline (star-shaped) screws of RM movements
  • Screw finish polished rather than matte titanium

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2016 to presentFully skeletonized dial showing the RMAC3 automatic movement; annual calendar displays month and date; flyback chronograph subdials integrated into the movement architecture.
  • Annual calendar: month display is separate from the date; the annual mechanism advances correctly through months of different lengths, requiring only one manual correction per year (February to March)
  • Movement visible through dial shows the differential gear train of the annual calendar on the upper movement section
  • Case material stamped on dial and caseback: "TITANIUM" or specific alloy designation

Service part flags

toggle
Case material

Original: Grade 5 titanium case; the RM 11-03 in standard configuration weighs approximately 38 to 42g with rubber strap. The case is explicitly non-magnetic.

Replacement tells
  • Magnetic response: steel reproduction shows attraction to a magnet
  • Weight above 55g with rubber strap indicates steel case
  • Case finish shows oxidation or patina inconsistent with titanium
Annual calendar mechanism

Original: Month display advances automatically through months of 28, 30, and 31 days; requires one manual correction per year (end of February). The mechanism is visible through the skeleton dial.

Replacement tells
  • Month display requires manual correction every month: not an annual calendar mechanism
  • Month disc visible through dial moves daily or erratically

Case back markings

toggle
2016 to present
  • Sapphire caseback showing RMAC3 movement reverse side
  • Titanium case back ring engraved with reference "RM 11-03" and serial number
  • Geneva-standard movement finishing visible through caseback: no machine marks on bridges
  • Rotor carries the Richard Mille signature and spline screws

Movement tells

toggle
  • The RMAC3 skeleton movement has a specific bridge architecture with spline screws throughout; all screws should be grade-5 titanium with a matte finish, not polished steel.
  • The flyback function resets the chronograph with a single press; a standard column-wheel chronograph requiring stop-reset-start is not the RMAC3.
  • Annual calendar advance: with the crown at position 3 (calendar correction), the month should advance cleanly in single increments; a mechanism that skips or requires repeated correction is non-original.
  • Richard Mille offers direct brand authentication for any claimed RM. For any RM 11-03 above entry-level secondary market pricing, brand verification is the appropriate next step.
