The Finissimo Chronograph adds the world's thinnest mechanical chronograph movement to the Octo architecture; secondary premium reflects the complication and the movement record.

Authentication

GMT function pusher is integrated into the case edge; must advance GMT hand one hour per press cleanly.

Known issues in the market
  • GMT pusher sticking or not advancing the GMT hand one hour per press indicates service need.
  • Ultra-thin case height is also a counterfeit check; verify total height approaches Finissimo specification.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT holds a world record for the thinnest automatic chronograph movement at 3.45mm; the complete watch is 7.4mm. The extreme thinness, the column-wheel chronograph, and the GMT hand are the authentication pillars.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

The Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT is targeted due to its high price. Replicas are substantially thicker and cannot replicate the world-record thin movement.

  • Total thickness greater than 7.4mm -- definitive for this reference
  • Pusher feel that is spongy or inconsistent with column-wheel actuation
  • Missing GMT hand
  • Titanium marking on a case that responds to a magnet
  • Movement visible through the caseback with bridge layout inconsistent with Cal. BVL 318

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2019 to presentOpen-worked or solid dial in black or blue, with chronograph sub-dials integrated into the ultra-thin layout. GMT hand visible as a fourth hand. Titanium case.
  • "BVLGARI" text and "OCTO FINISSIMO CHRONOGRAPH GMT" identification on the dial
  • Chronograph sub-dials integrated into the dial layout -- 30-minute at 3, running seconds at 9 (confirm against production documentation for this reference)
  • Fourth GMT hand for second time zone reading
  • Titanium case with octagonal bezel on round case
  • Total watch thickness of 7.4mm -- still visibly ultra-thin for a chronograph
  • Column-wheel actuation: precise, positive pusher feel

Service part flags

toggle
Ultra-thin chronograph case (7.4mm total)

Original: The complete watch with movement, case, and crystal is 7.4mm. The Cal. BVL 318 movement is 3.45mm. Any watch substantially thicker than 7.4mm is not a genuine Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT.

Replacement tells
  • Total thickness measurably greater than 7.4mm -- use calipers across the crystal and caseback
  • Case construction that does not maintain the visual ultra-thin profile of the Finissimo family
GMT hand

Original: The fourth hand performs 24-hour GMT rotation. It should be distinctly shaped from the hour hand. Its color or marking should be specific to this reference.

Replacement tells
  • Missing GMT hand on a stated Finissimo Chronograph GMT
  • GMT hand that does not advance at half the speed of the hour hand
  • GMT hand identical in profile to the hour hand -- the GMT should be visually distinct
Pushers

Original: Pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock. The Cal. BVL 318 is a column-wheel chronograph; pusher actuation should have a clean, precise click. The ultra-thin movement means even pusher architecture is a space-constrained engineering challenge.

Replacement tells
  • Spongy pusher actuation inconsistent with a column-wheel chronograph
  • Pushers that allow chronograph reset while running rather than requiring a stop first

Case back markings

toggle
2019 to present
  • Solid or exhibition caseback depending on variant
  • "BVLGARI" and "OCTO FINISSIMO CHRONOGRAPH GMT" text
  • Reference 103068 on case band
  • "SWISS MADE" and "TITANIUM" material confirmation
  • 30M water resistance rating
  • Serial number

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. BVL 318 beats at 28,800bph with a 55-hour power reserve. A fully wound Finissimo Chrono stopping before 46 hours warrants service.
  • The 3.45mm movement thickness is the world record at the time of production. The architecture is proprietary Bulgari and requires authorized service.
  • GMT hand quickset should advance in clean one-hour increments. Partial or fractional advance indicates worn GMT mechanism.
