Authentication
The GMT hand must move independently of the main time hands; a non-functional second time zone hand confirms a movement swap.
- Cal. 5100 swapped with a non-GMT movement leaving a decorative-only second time zone hand.
- GMT hand color (red on 26393ST) is reference-specific; incorrect color indicates a parts swap.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| hands | GMT hand independence | GMT hand adjustable independently via crown to display second time zone; moves in 1-hour increments; 24h disc at 6 advances correctly | GMT hand moves with main time hands; GMT hand not adjustable independently; 24h disc not advancing |
| hands | GMT hand color | Red GMT hand consistent with 26393ST specification; lume pip present on GMT hand tip | Incorrect GMT hand color; no lume pip; hand color inconsistent with documented 26393ST specification |
| dial | 24h disc at 6 | 24h scale disc visible at 6 o'clock; advances one position per hour; AM/PM clearly distinguishable on disc | Non-advancing 24h disc; disc absent; 24h markings inconsistent with Cal. 5100 GMT display format |
- Cal. 5100 is AP's dedicated GMT caliber; any non-GMT movement is immediately identifiable via hand independence test.
- Double-curved sapphire crystal is shared with other Code 11.59 variants; confirm original AP crystal is present.
Authentication guide
The Code 11.59 GMT in steel adds a 24-hour inner bezel and a fourth hand for a second time zone display to the Code 11.59 architecture. The GMT variant shares the double-curved crystal and dual-shape case of the self-winding and chronograph variants; authentication follows the same checkpoints with the addition of the GMT hand and inner bezel.
