The realistic confusion here is with the larger SeaQ, not with a replica. This is the 39.5mm on a plain date; the Panorama Date SeaQ is a different watch with a different movement.
Known issues in the market
- The SeaQ line runs in two sizes with two different calibres. This one uses the 39-11 with a simple date at 3. The Panorama Date model uses the 36-13 and shows the date as two large digits.
- The caseback is a factory option: solid steel with a central screw-down, or sapphire for a surcharge. Neither is more original than the other, so a sapphire back is not a sign of tampering.
- The lume is Super-LumiNova in the "Old Radium" tone, so it looks warm and aged from new. Cream-coloured lume on a modern SeaQ is correct rather than suspicious.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| dial | Date window | A single small date aperture at 3, in proportion with the printed indexes | Two large digits, which makes it the Panorama Date reference |
| crystal | Bezel action | Unidirectional, turning counter-clockwise only, with a black ceramic inlay and a distinct half-minute detent | A bidirectional bezel, an aluminium insert, or full-minute clicks |
| movement | Calibre 39-11 | Automatic, 4Hz, 40 hours of reserve, with second-stop when the crown is pulled | A seconds hand that keeps running with the crown out |
| case | Size and rating | 39.5mm across, 12.15mm high, 200m with a screw-down crown, tested to the DIN and ISO dive standards | A 43.2mm case, which is the Panorama Date SeaQ |
Common legitimate replacements
- Straps are consumables and the SeaQ ships on rubber, synthetic and steel, so any of them can be original.
- Gaskets are replaced at each pressure test, which on a dive watch is routine maintenance rather than a repair.
Expert resources: Glashütte Original publishes the full technical block per SeaQ reference. Monochrome and Fratello both reviewed the 39.5mm specifically, which is the size most easily confused with its larger sibling in photographs.
