The Submariner 14060M is the final iteration of the no-date Submariner with the classic 40mm case, 4mm lugs, and aluminium bezel insert — the form that defined the sport-watch silhouette for half a century. Produced 1999–2012, it is the bridge between the vintage Sub and the modern ceramic-bezel "supercase" Submariners that followed.

What it is

The 14060M succeeded the 14060 in 1999 with the upgraded caliber 3130 — a higher-beat balance bridge for improved chronometric stability. The reference was COSC-certified beginning around 2007 (look for the depth-rating text changing to two lines on the dial), and production continued through 2012 when the ceramic-bezel 114060 took over. The acrylic-style aluminium bezel insert and the slimmer 40mm case give the 14060M a wearing presence that many collectors prefer to the modern model.

Buying notes

Common things to check: the bezel insert (originals fade to a slate grey, replacements are typically too dark and even); the case lugs (over-polishing rounds the chamfers and is the single biggest hit to long-term value); the dial (look for a swiss-made signature at 6 — earlier dials read "swiss" only); the bracelet (a 93150 bracelet matches the era; a later 97200 or aftermarket bracelet is a value flag).

Market read

Two-line "depth-rating" examples from 2007+ command a modest premium over the earlier four-line dials. Full-set examples with original papers and service-card history continue to outperform watch-only sales by a clear margin. The market for honest, well-cared-for 14060Ms has been firming over the last several years as collectors recognise the reference as the last "classic" Submariner.

Service expectations

The caliber 3130 is robust and serviceable indefinitely; a watchmaker who has done one Rolex has done a hundred. Service intervals of 7–10 years are typical. A recently-serviced example with paperwork is worth real money on top of a watch-only or unserviced one; that premium is reflected in the Grail Atlas service-state adjustment.
