At this tier you are not buying a Sellita base; the H1950 is a genuine manufacture caliber designed to sit at the heart of the house's most ambitious timepieces.
Hermès founded their La Montre Hermès manufacture in Biel in 1978, but in-house caliber development at a genuine level came later. The H1950 calibre, introduced in 2012 for the Slim d'Hermès line, was the house's first fully in-house ultra-slim movement: 2.6mm thin, manual-wind, with a power reserve of 42 hours. The PM designation (Petite Modèle) refers to the 39.5mm case diameter, which places it in the dress-watch sweet spot.
The white gold case and sapphire dial options reflect Hermès's jewelry heritage as much as their watch ambitions.
Ultra-slim movements are inherently more vulnerable to shock than thicker calibers; the H1950 at 2.6mm is not a watch to wear while playing sport. The manual-wind requirement means daily attention; set a routine or expect to reset the time regularly. White gold cases are soft and scratch visibly; buying a used example requires careful inspection under magnification.
At this price tier, provenance documentation and service history are non-negotiable.
