Authentication

The exhibition caseback rotor must be signed Hamilton; a generic ETA rotor indicates the movement cover was replaced.

Known issues in the market
  • Generic ETA C07.611 rotors without Hamilton signing are sometimes fitted after service; the rotor must be signed Hamilton.
  • The 80-hour power reserve claim can be verified by fully winding and timing run-down; verify before purchase if the seller permits.
  • Canvas strap condition varies widely on used examples; strap replacement is easy and common.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Cal. H-10 ETA C07.611 base is easily serviceable independently; parts are standard.
  • At this price point, straps are the most commonly replaced component; non-original straps are expected and acceptable.

Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic 38mm (ref. H70455533), Cal. H-10 on an ETA C07.611 base. 80-hour automatic. The automatic sibling of the mechanical Khaki Field; thicker at 11mm vs. the mechanical's 9.5mm.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The price point makes full reproductions uneconomical. Misrepresentation of the mechanical as automatic (or vice versa) is more likely.

  • No date window indicates the watch may be the mechanical variant (or wrong dial)
  • Case height less than 11mm suggests the mechanical 38mm, not the automatic
  • Crown with visible pumping resistance at winding position indicates hand-wind movement without auto rotor

Dial variants by era

  • Matte dial (black, green, or blue)
  • Arabic numeral indices at 12, 3, 6, 9; baton between

Crown

Original: Signed Hamilton push-pull crown. The automatic does not require manual winding but can be hand-wound.

Replacement tells
  • Unsigned crown
  • Crown that does not allow hand-winding (should wind with clockwise rotation)
Dial

Original: Matte finish with date at 3. No small seconds subdial (contrast with the mechanical which has a small seconds at 6).

Replacement tells
  • Small seconds at 6 indicates a mechanical H-50 dial has been installed
  • No date window indicates wrong dial
  • Glossy finish where matte is original

Case back markings

toggle
2018 to present
  • Hamilton shield medallion
  • "HAMILTON" perimeter
  • Reference H70455533 and serial
  • "SWISS MADE"
  • "100 M / 330 FT" water resistance

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. H-10 runs at 28,800 bph. 80-hour power reserve. A movement with a 42-hour reserve in this case indicates an ETA 2824 or similar swap.
  • The automatic rotor is standard; no display caseback on the production reference. A display caseback is a non-original modification.
  • Case height 11mm. The mechanical 38mm sits at 9.5mm. If two watches are side by side and the claimed automatic appears flatter, investigate.
