The colour coding on the time-zone ring is the fastest check. This watch shows 35 zones, not 24, and the odd ones are printed in blue and red for a reason.

Known issues in the market
  • Almost no world timer handles zones offset by half or three quarters of an hour. If the ring shows only the usual 24 full-hour cities, it is not a Cosmopolite.
  • Glashütte Original is replicated at low volume, so the more realistic risks are service dials and confusion between the many Cosmopolite references across steel, red gold and white gold.
  • The Panorama Date here is driven by the same movement as the two time displays. A date that does not track when the home time is advanced across midnight indicates a problem.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Straps and buckles are consumables. Glashütte Original offers this reference on leather and on a bracelet, so either can be original.
  • Servicing a two-zone calendar movement is specialist work; ask where it was last done rather than only when.
Expert resources: Glashütte Original publishes the full technical block per reference on its own site. Monochrome reviewed both the steel and the midnight blue versions with photographs clear enough to read the zone ring.
