Authentication

GMT hand must advance in 1-hour increments independently of the main hour hand; verify 24h bezel insert integrity.

Known issues in the market
  • GMT hand linked to main hour hand indicates the GMT function is disabled or broken.
  • Sellita SW330 base is appropriate; verify caliber designation matches TAG Cal. 7.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Autavia GMT uses the Calibre 7 (Sellita SW330 base, TAG-finished) and carries a bicolor 24-hour bezel that reads a second time zone directly. The GMT hand is tri-color with a red arrow tip. A pusher at 10 o'clock advances the GMT hand independently in one-hour increments. This quick-set pusher is the defining functional feature and the primary authentication check.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

Replica Autavia GMT watches with non-ceramic bezel and incorrect GMT hand profile.

  • Single-color bezel (all black or all blue) rather than the genuine bicolor split
  • Bezel that scratches with a steel tool, indicating aluminum rather than ceramic
  • GMT hand without the distinct tri-color profile (red tip, white center, secondary base color)
  • No recessed pusher at 10 o'clock, or a pusher that does not advance the GMT hand independently

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2019 to present (black/blue bezel)Black dial with a black and blue bicolor bezel. The blue half covers the daytime hours (6 to 18) and the black half the nighttime hours. The GMT hand with a red arrow tip is the immediate visual center.
  • Bicolor bezel with blue daytime half and black nighttime half -- not a simple single-color bezel
  • GMT hand with tri-color profile: red arrow tip, white center shaft, and a distinct second color at the base
  • Pusher at 10 o'clock for independent GMT hour advancement
  • Arabic numeral dial with 24-hour indices on the outer chapter ring
  • 42mm round case with integrated lug profile

Service part flags

toggle
GMT quick-set pusher at 10 o'clock

Original: A recessed pusher at the 10 o'clock position advances the GMT hour hand one hour per press, independently of the local hour hand. It is a quick-set function, not a chronograph pusher. The pusher is recessed to prevent accidental activation.

Replacement tells
  • No pusher at 10 o'clock -- a missing quick-set pusher indicates either a non-GMT variant, a different TAG reference, or a non-matching case
  • Pusher that does not advance the GMT hand independently -- if pressing it only adjusts the time, the movement function has been bypassed or is incorrect
  • Flush solid surface at 10 o'clock rather than a recessed pusher
Bicolor ceramic bezel

Original: Ceramic bicolor bezel insert with 24-hour scale. The blue and black halves are ceramic, not aluminum. The 24-hour scale is laser-engraved or printed into the ceramic surface.

Replacement tells
  • Bezel insert that scratches with a steel tool -- genuine ceramic resists metal tool marks; aluminum aftermarket inserts scratch easily
  • Bezel with a color join that does not align precisely to the 6/18 boundary on the 24-hour scale
  • Scale numerals that appear painted or applied rather than engraved into the ceramic surface
GMT hand

Original: The GMT hand has a red arrow tip. The red should be consistent with the brand's standard red tone, not orange or pink. The hand completes one rotation per 24 hours.

Replacement tells
  • GMT hand that completes one rotation per 12 hours rather than 24 -- wrong gearing, wrong movement
  • Arrow tip in the wrong color (orange or pink rather than true red)
  • Standard pointed seconds hand shape rather than the wider arrow profile of the GMT hand

Case back markings

toggle
2019 to present
  • Solid caseback with perimeter engraving identifying the Autavia GMT reference
  • "CALIBRE 7" designation and TAG Heuer reference number on the caseback
  • Serial number on the case midband
  • "TAG HEUER AUTAVIA" on the outer ring

Movement tells

toggle
  • Calibre 7 is built on a Sellita SW330 base, TAG-finished. It runs at 28,800bph with approximately 42 hours power reserve. The SW330 base is a reliable GMT platform with a good collector reputation.
  • The GMT function: the GMT hand advances one hour per press of the 10 o'clock pusher. If the hand does not advance independently from the local hour hand, the GMT mechanism is not functioning correctly.
  • A Cal. 7 that has been swapped for a generic ETA 2836-based GMT movement will typically have a shorter power reserve and a different caseback profile.
  • Bidirectional winding rotor should spin freely. Any lateral wobble indicates worn rotor bearings.
