The annual calendar day, date, and month apertures must all advance correctly; a lagging month disc is the most common service indicator.
Known issues in the market
- Annual calendars only need manual correction once per year at the end of February; any example that requires more frequent correction has a service issue.
- The moonphase variant adds a disc at 6; a missing moonphase on a caliber that specifies it indicates dial or movement substitution.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| dial | Annual calendar aperture advancement | Day, date, and month apertures all advance cleanly at midnight; month disc advances correctly through 30 and 31-day months automatically | Month disc that does not advance at month-end; any aperture that lags or advances at the wrong time |
| dial | Text printing in apertures | Day, date, and month text is correctly formatted and centered in each aperture; font matches GP specification | Misaligned text in any aperture; incorrect font or size; text that is not fully visible when centered |
| movement | Cal. GP033R0 via caseback | Exhibition caseback showing GP in-house annual calendar movement with correct caliber designation | Non-GP movement; standard date-only movement substituted for annual calendar caliber |
Common legitimate replacements
- Annual calendar mechanisms are complex; service should be performed only by GP-certified watchmakers.
- Leather straps are frequently replaced; factory GP straps have GP-signed buckles with correct finishing.

The 1966 Annual Calendar is the complication flagship of the 1966 round case family. Cal. GP033R0 advances the calendar automatically at month-end, requiring just one correction at the end of February each year. Testing the calendar correction is the most direct functional check.
