Entry to the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève is voluntary and made by the brand. An entry is a watch registered for that year's competition, not a jury verdict, and several large houses including Rolex, Patek Philippe and Omega do not take part at all.

Authentication

Seamless bracelet-to-case integration is the Octo Roma design signature; any gap or step at the lug interface is a non-genuine indicator.

Known issues in the market
  • Gap or step at the lug-to-case interface indicates a non-genuine or aftermarket bracelet.
  • Octagonal case edge finishing must be consistent; polishing rounds the facet edges.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Octo Roma is the integrated-bracelet sport variant in the Octo family, using the in-house Cal. BVL 191. The octagonal-on-round bezel-case interface is the defining visual, and the bezel finishing complexity is the primary authentication lever.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

Octo Roma replicas exist due to the brand's visibility and the attractive integrated-bracelet design. The bezel finishing complexity and in-house movement are the main tells.

  • Octagonal bezel faces with rounded transitions rather than precise right-angle edges
  • Polished faces that are not genuinely mirror-finished
  • Integrated bracelet with incorrect link taper or polished/brushed finish inconsistency
  • Movement bridge layout through the caseback inconsistent with Cal. BVL 191

Dial variants by era

  • "BVLGARI" text at 12 and "OCTO ROMA" identification on the dial

  • Integrated steel bracelet with the same polished/brushed alternating treatment as the bezel
  • Steel case: the Roma is steel, not titanium like the Finissimo

  • Sunray-brushed silver or electric blue dial in the Roma case
  • All other specifications identical to the black dial variant

Octagonal bezel finishing

Original: The eight octagonal faces alternate between fully polished and fully brushed surfaces. On the Roma, this is in steel. Each face-to-face transition is a right-angle edge with no soft rounding.

Replacement tells
  • Face transitions that are rounded or show finishing artifacts
  • Polished faces that are not genuinely mirror-finished under direct light
  • Brushed faces with inconsistent grain direction or depth
  • Any bezel that rotates -- the Octo Roma bezel is fixed
Integrated bracelet

Original: The bracelet tapers from the case to clasp, with alternating polished and brushed links matching the bezel treatment. The clasp should have precise tolerances and integrate seamlessly with the bracelet architecture.

Replacement tells
  • Bracelet with links that do not taper correctly from case to clasp
  • Polished/brushed transitions on bracelet links that are imprecise at the link edges
  • Clasp that is disproportionately heavy or light relative to the bracelet links
Cal. BVL 191 movement

Original: The Cal. BVL 191 is Bulgari's in-house sport automatic. The movement is visible if the caseback is opened. The bridge layout and finishing are specific to the BVL 191 architecture.

Replacement tells
  • Movement with bridge layout inconsistent with Cal. BVL 191 documentation
  • Generic rotor without Bulgari signing
  • Movement finishing below the standard expected for a Bulgari in-house caliber

Case back markings

toggle
2017 to present
  • Exhibition or solid caseback depending on production variant -- confirm against reference documentation
  • "BVLGARI" and "OCTO ROMA" text
  • Reference 103085 or production variant reference on case band
  • "SWISS MADE" on the caseback
  • "STAINLESS STEEL" or steel confirmation (vs. titanium for Finissimo)
  • 100M water resistance rating
  • Serial number

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. BVL 191 beats at 28,800bph with a 50-hour power reserve. A fully wound Octo Roma stopping before 42 hours warrants service.
  • The date change at midnight should be crisp. Gradual advance indicates a worn quickset or date-driving lever.
  • The rotor winding should be smooth and bidirectional. Any ratcheting or binding in the rotor indicates a worn automatic mechanism.
