Air-King 40 (2022)

The Air-King 126900 is the current production Air-King, reintroduced in 2022 with the in-house caliber 3230 and a revised dial layout that leans into the watch's aviation roots with yellow hands and a prominent yellow numeral 12. It sits in an unusual position in the Rolex catalog: unambiguously sporty but without a complication, which makes it a cleaner object than many collectors expect when they finally see one in person.

What it is

The 126900 succeeded the 116900 in 2022, bringing the caliber 3230 (already found in the Oyster Perpetual range) and a slightly revised case with different proportions at the lugs. The 116900 had introduced the modern Air-King format in 2016, itself a revival after the nameplate went dormant; the 126900 continues that dial signature, large Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 with minute track markings, but the yellow accents are more emphatic. No date, no bezel complications, smooth steel bezel throughout.

Buying notes

The 126900 is recent enough that most examples are unworn or lightly worn; concentrate your scrutiny on bracelet condition (check the clasp for play and the links for stretch), case finishing (the brushed surfaces should be crisp, not buffed), and full-set completeness since the watch is young enough that papers and warranty card should almost always be present. Confirm the reference number on the inner caseback matches the outer engravings. If a seller cannot produce the original warranty card for a watch claimed to be from 2022 or later, treat that as a significant gap.

The 126900 trades at or near retail in most markets; secondary premiums over list have compressed substantially from the 2021-2022 peak and the watch now changes hands at modest discounts to new in some regions. Full-set, unworn examples with a recent purchase date hold best. There are no meaningful dial variants to chase within the reference as of mid-2026, so condition and completeness are the primary price drivers rather than configuration.

Service expectations

The caliber 3230 is Rolex's current generation movement, introduced in 2020, with a 70-hour power reserve and the Chronergy escapement. Factory service intervals are recommended at approximately 10 years. Given the reference's age, any example already showing a service history should prompt questions rather than confidence.
