The hand engraving on the case and movement plates must show natural variation in depth and line; machine-laser engraving with perfectly uniform lines is not consistent with hand work.
Known issues in the market
Each Engraved piece has unique hand engraving; the design should match seller documentation specific to that piece.

Authentication guide
Last reviewed June 2026
The Vingt-8 Engraved extends the base Vingt-8 with hand-engraved case decoration: the lugs, bezel, and sometimes the movement bridges carry traditional floral or guilloche engraving done by Voutilainen's contracted engravers. Authentication requires close inspection of engraving quality.

No known replica. The combination of Cal. 28 movement and hand-engraved case is impossible to counterfeit at any meaningful scale.
Machine-engraved patterns have a regularity and flatness distinct from hand work; examine under magnification at 10x
Request original purchase documentation and photographs of the engraving from the delivering dealer; Voutilainen maintains records of the engraving motifs.
