The Overseas 4500V date-only is the entry to the family and holds its value well; the interchangeable strap system adds perceived value and keeps secondary buyers willing to pay a premium.

Authentication

Integrated bracelets and franken dials are the two most common problems on the current Overseas generation.

Known issues in the market
  • Franken dials from other VC pieces swapped onto Overseas cases.
  • Non-original integrated bracelets (the factory bracelet is expensive; cheaper aftermarket substitutes circulate).
  • All three interchangeable strap types must have VC-logo deployments with correct integrated end-links; any deviation signals a replacement.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Integrated steel bracelet is the most-replaced component; the genuine factory bracelet commands a significant premium on its own.
  • Rubber and leather straps are frequently replaced with non-original alternatives; check VC-logo deployment on all three strap types.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Overseas 4500V is VC's sport watch and arguably the most undervalued integrated-bracelet reference at its tier. The quick-change strap system and Cal. 5100 architecture are the key authentication anchors. The movement is significantly harder to fake convincingly than the Nautilus or Royal Oak.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

ETA-based movement in an Overseas-style case

  • Rotor without the Maltese cross decoration
  • Movement plate without the parallel Cotes de Geneve or without the Poincon de Geneve hallmark
  • Power reserve below 55 hours
  • Case thickness beyond 11mm -- the genuine 4500V is 11mm including crystal
MEDIUM

Genuine movement with non-original dial or damaged clou de Paris

  • Dial pattern that is flat under raking light rather than three-dimensional
  • Maltese cross at 12 that shows printing texture or inconsistent depth
  • Applied markers that are glued rather than pressed to the dial surface

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2016 to present (third generation)Current production Overseas with clou de Paris (hobnail) patterned dial in blue, silver, or white. The pattern is applied, not printed, producing a three-dimensional texture.
  • Clou de Paris hobnail pattern; each pyramid is individually pressed, not silk-screened
  • Applied baton markers in white gold or yellow gold depending on variant
  • Maltese cross at 12 o'clock (applied, not printed) as the Vacheron signature
  • "VACHERON CONSTANTIN" at 12 and "OVERSEAS" at 6, printed with consistent ink depth
  • Date window at 3 with no cyclops; matching the flat profile of the sapphire crystal

Clou de Paris dial

Original: Each pyramid in the hobnail pattern is individually formed, producing a consistent three-dimensional texture that changes character as the light angle shifts. The dial surface catches light from every direction differently. This is not achievable with printing or silk-screening.

Replacement tells
  • Dial pattern that appears flat or printed under raking light
  • Pattern that is uniform and loses depth under direct illumination
  • Applied markers that are not recessed into the dial surface at their bases
  • Maltese cross at 12 that shows printing texture rather than a machined applied piece
Quick-change strap system

Original: The 4500V ships with three interchangeable straps (rubber, leather, steel bracelet), each secured by a push-button quick-release system integrated into the case lugs. Each strap clicks in firmly with a single audible snap and releases cleanly with the push-button.

Replacement tells
  • Strap attachment that requires tools rather than the push-button system
  • Any play or rattle in the strap when installed -- genuine attachment is solid with no movement
  • Aftermarket rubber or leather straps without the correct VC-branded push-pin hardware
Maltese cross crown

Original: The crown is engraved with the Vacheron Constantin Maltese cross on its face. The engraving is clean, with consistent depth around the entire cross silhouette.

Replacement tells
  • Crown without engraving or with a different emblem
  • Engraving that appears stamped (raised edges around the symbol) rather than cut
  • Crown diameter inconsistent with the case proportion

Case back markings

toggle
2016 to present
  • 4500V/110A-B128 reference number (or variant designation for other dial colors)
  • OVERSEAS designation
  • VACHERON CONSTANTIN GENEVE
  • Serial number in VC format (7-digit)
  • 150M water resistance
  • Exhibition caseback showing Cal. 5100

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 5100 is a manufacture movement, 65-hour power reserve, beats at 28,800 vph. The rotor is in 22k gold with Maltese cross decoration. A steel rotor or plain rotor with no Maltese cross is a clear sign of movement swap.
  • The movement plate shows the Geneva Seal (Poincon de Geneve) hallmark. Every bridge and plate surface meeting the seal standard must be finished to a specific standard -- machine marks on any bridge surface are disqualifying.
  • Power reserve should be verified: 65 hours from full wind. Running out before 55 hours indicates mainspring or barrel service is needed.
  • The escapement should be observable through the caseback running cleanly at 4Hz. Any irregularity in the balance wheel motion suggests regulation work needed.
