Mid-tier supplier movement · caliber Tudor T600: ETA 2824-2 base, Tudor-finished, 28,800bph, 38h PR, 25j; used in 1926 and Black Bay 36; reliable ETA-based automatic · 38h power reserve · see-through caseback
Small case: suits slender wrists (under 6.5 in / 16.5 cm)
36 mm case. A compact, elegant wear. Particularly at home on narrower wrists where larger cases can overhang.

The snowflake handset with club-shaped tips is the defining Tudor historical element; Mercedes-style hands are the wrong specification.

Known issues in the market
  • Mercedes-style hands are sometimes substituted on grey-market or serviced examples; the club-shaped snowflake tip is not optional on this reference.
  • Cal. T600 is ETA 2824-2-based; verify the movement is Tudor-signed through the caseback.
  • No GMT, no date on the BB36; a dial with a date aperture indicates a wrong-reference dial swap.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Cal. T600 ETA 2824-2 service is inexpensive and widely available from independent watchmakers.
  • Snowflake hands are Tudor-specific parts; aftermarket snowflake-style hands exist but have incorrect tip proportions.

Last reviewed June 2026

The Black Bay 36 is the compact, no-date entry to the Black Bay family. At 36mm it wears significantly smaller than the BB41 or BB58. The T600 movement (ETA 2824-2 base) is correct; this is not an MT5xxx movement. At 150m water resistance it is slightly lower than the BB41 and BB58 (200m). The snowflake hands are still present.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

BB41 replicas with a 36mm case size approximation, or BB36 cases fitted with incorrect movements from higher-tier Black Bay references.

  • Date window on a stated BB36 -- the 36 is no-date
  • Snowflake hands with wrong proportions for the 36mm case -- too wide indicates hands from a larger BB
  • Caseback with "200M" water resistance where the genuine BB36 states "150M"
  • Exhibition caseback where only a solid back is correct

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2016 to present (black)Black dial with snowflake hands scaled to the 36mm case. No date complication. The bezel has an aluminum insert with a 60-minute scale.
  • Black dial with applied dot indices
  • Snowflake hands in correct proportion for 36mm -- noticeably narrower than BB41 hands
  • No date window -- the BB36 is no-date; presence of a date indicates a wrong dial or different reference
  • Unidirectional rotating bezel with aluminum insert
  • 36mm x 11.7mm case -- the smallest standard Black Bay
2016 to present (silver, blue)Silver and blue dial variants. Same case and T600 movement.
  • Silver or blue dial with dot indices consistent with the BB36 design
  • Matching or contrasting bezel insert color depending on variant

Service part flags

T600 movement (ETA 2824-2 base)

Original: Tudor T600 is an ETA 2824-2 base, Tudor-finished. 28,800bph, approximately 38 hours power reserve. The BB36 is one of the few Black Bay variants with an ETA-based movement; the BB41, BB GMT, and BB Chrono use Tudor in-house MT5xxx calibers.

Replacement tells
  • Power reserve significantly under 35 hours from full wind -- a worn mainspring, not necessarily a wrong movement
  • Crown advancing a date or GMT complication -- the BB36 has neither; any such complication indicates a wrong movement or misrepresented reference
  • Exhibition caseback on a stated BB36 -- this reference uses a solid caseback with the T600 ETA base
No-date dial

Original: The BB36 has no date complication. A clean dial at 3 o'clock is correct. A date window indicates either a different Black Bay reference or a non-matching dial.

Replacement tells
  • Date window at 3 o'clock on a stated BB36 -- this reference is no-date
  • Dial with Arabic numerals rather than dot indices -- the BB36 uses dot indices

Case back markings

toggle
2016 to present
  • Solid caseback with Tudor shield at center
  • "TUDOR BLACK BAY 36" on the outer ring
  • "150M / 500FT" water resistance rating -- lower than the BB41 and BB58's 200m
  • Reference M79500 and serial number on the case

Movement tells

toggle
  • T600 (ETA 2824-2 base), 28,800bph, 38-hour power reserve. Fully wound BB36 should run 35 to 40 hours.
  • No GMT, no date, no complications beyond time-only. Any crown position that activates a complication indicates a wrong movement.
  • 150m water resistance -- lower than the BB41 family; check for "150M" on the caseback or dial to confirm correct specification.
