Authentication
The 44mm case size sits between the 42mm and 47mm Submersibles and is the first thing to confirm; a solid (non-exhibition) steel caseback is correct for the P.900 caliber, not a sapphire display back.
Known issues in the market
- Sellers occasionally list this as the 42mm Submersible P00683 (which runs the different in-house P.9000) or misstate the case size; the two references are not interchangeable and command different prices.
- A sapphire exhibition caseback on a watch represented as this reference is wrong: the QuarantaQuattro Bianco ships with a solid, screwed steel caseback because the P.900 is not a decorated display movement.
- The unidirectional dive bezel should click in one direction only; a bezel that turns both ways has a worn or replaced click-spring.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| case | 44mm case diameter and crown-protecting bridge | 44mm brushed steel case, Panerai's patented lever-lock crown-protecting bridge, unidirectional rotating steel bezel with graduated scale | Case measuring closer to 42mm or 47mm; missing or non-functional crown-guard lever; bezel that rotates clockwise |
| caseback | Solid steel caseback | Screwed, solid brushed-steel closed caseback with no sapphire display window | Sapphire exhibition caseback showing the movement; this does not exist on the QuarantaQuattro Bianco |
| dial | White sandwich dial with small seconds and date | White sandwich-construction dial, luminous hour markers and dots (no printed Arabic numerals), small seconds at 9 o'clock, date at 3 o'clock | Large printed Arabic numerals at 12/6/9 in the QuarantaQuattro Bianco layout; missing small-seconds or date positions |
Common legitimate replacements
- Ships on a green rubber strap with an additional green textile strap; both use Panerai's quick-release spring bars, so non-factory straps are common and not a red flag on their own.
