Authentication

Cal. L888.4 silicon hairspring must be confirmed via the caseback stamp; the ceramic bezel insert cannot be repainted and chips are permanent.

Known issues in the market
  • Caseback does not show "Silicon" stamp; seller claims L888.4 but the watch has the earlier L888.2 without silicon anti-magnetic protection.
  • Ceramic bezel insert has color variation or a visible chip; ceramic cannot be touched up, so any inconsistency means the insert was damaged.
  • Bezel click mechanism is loose; the bezel rotates past click positions without proper detent.

crystalAnti-reflective coating conditionAR coating is uniform with a slight blue or green tint; no delamination or crazing visibleCrazing or spider-web delamination of the AR coating; heavy scratches that indicate the crystal has been polished or replaced with non-OEM glass
Common legitimate replacements
  • Bezel inserts are a common replacement part; aftermarket ceramic inserts exist and the font and scale markings may differ from OEM.
  • Rubber straps and bracelets are frequently swapped; original HydroConquest bracelets have the Longines signed clasp.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The post-2020 HydroConquest has angular lugs and a ceramic bezel insert with applied lume pip. The L888.4 silicon-hairspring movement is the same excellent caliber as the Spirit line.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The HydroConquest is a production dive watch at accessible prices with no known systematic reproduction. Risk is parts mixing between generations or incorrect movement.

  • Aluminum bezel insert on a post-2020 example (generation mismatch)
  • Rounded lugs on a supposed angular-lug post-2020 example
  • Non-silicon movement under magnet test

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2020 to presentAngular modernized case with brushed/polished combination, ceramic bezel, integrated rubber or metal bracelet option
  • Black, blue, or grey dial with applied baton indices and lume

  • Central seconds with lume tip
  • Brushed flanks and polished bevels on case
  • 41mm case with 47mm lug-to-lug
2014 to 2019 (prior generation)Softer lug profile, different bezel texture, aluminum inserts on some examples
  • Rounder lug profile vs. angular 2020 design
  • Aluminum bezel insert on older examples (later replaced by ceramic)
  • Same dial layout but slightly different index proportions

Service part flags

Ceramic Bezel Insert

Original: Unidirectional ceramic insert with 60-minute graduation and applied lume pip at 12

Replacement tells
  • Aluminum insert on a post-2020 example (wrong material for the generation)
  • Missing applied lume pip; printed pip is incorrect
  • Bezel graduation numbers with incorrect font
  • Ceramic chips or crazing (irreparable; affects value)
Crown

Original: Screw-down crown at 3 o'clock for 300M water resistance

Replacement tells
  • Push-pull crown indicates either service damage or a non-dive-rated replacement
  • Crown that does not lock down completely

Case back markings

toggle
2020 to present
  • Solid screwback, water-resistant to 300M
  • Engraved: LONGINES, reference L3.781.4.96.6, 300M/1000FT
  • Cal. L888.4 not visible without opening; request service history to confirm

Movement tells

toggle
  • The L888.4 runs at 25,200 bph with silicon hairspring; magnet resistance is a quick field check for movement authenticity.
  • 64-hour power reserve should be demonstrable; anything under 55 hours on a fully wound watch warrants mainspring inspection.
  • The screw-down crown must engage and disengage cleanly; any resistance or grinding is a crown-tube issue, common on watches used in water without proper maintenance.
  • Lume on the bezel pip should match the dial and hands in glow color; mixed lume compounds after partial service indicate non-original parts.
  • The brushed/polished case finishing is specific to generation; over-polished cases (all shiny, no brushed surfaces) indicate aggressive refinishing that removes original finishing.
