Each planet disc in the Grand Planetarium must rotate at its correct orbital period relative to the others; CVDK produces very few pieces per year and provenance with serial documentation is essential.
- CVDK pieces are extremely rare; any example without original documentation and serial number matching requires specialist authentication.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| dial | Planetary rotation at correct orbital periods | Each planet disc rotates at the correct orbital period relative to the others; solar system representation is accurate | Any planet disc rotating at the same speed as others; damaged or non-genuine astronomical module |
| movement | Andreas Strehler base with planetarium module | Strehler base with CVDK in-house planetarium module visible through caseback | Non-Strehler base movement or missing planetarium module |
| caseback | Serial number and documentation | Matching serial number and original CVDK certificate | Missing or non-matching serial number or certificate; requires expert authentication |
- No common replacements; CVDK parts are proprietary and not available on the open market.
Authentication guide
The Grand Planetarium Eccentric uses an Andreas Strehler base movement combined with CVDK's proprietary planetarium module. At 44mm it is larger than the Planetarium Eise Eisinga, and the eccentric time display shifts the hour/minute indication away from center to accommodate the planetary display. The movement architecture combining Strehler base and CVDK module is the defining technical characteristic.
