Authentication
This execution of Cal. 01 has only two registers (running seconds and a 30-minute counter); a caseback or dial showing a 12-hour counter belongs to a different Superocean Heritage chronograph.
Known issues in the market
- Breitling removed the 12-hour totalizer from the standard 3-register Cal. 01 for this reference, so the movement runs 41 jewels rather than the 47-jewel standard B01; a dial with three registers does not match this reference.
- This is a 2025-generation reference; a case with the older, thicker, non-tapered lug profile from the pre-2025 Superocean Heritage chronograph indicates a different (earlier) reference, not this one.
- Mesh bracelet and rubber strap versions use a folding butterfly clasp; a fold-over clasp of the older style does not belong to this generation.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| dial | Two-register chronograph layout | Running-seconds subdial and a single 30-minute counter only, with a date aperture at 6 o'clock; no 12-hour counter present | A third (12-hour) chronograph subdial present, which does not match this reference's movement configuration |
| caseback | Cal. 01 column-wheel architecture | Column wheel and vertical clutch visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback, signed with the Breitling Manufacture caliber designation | Cam-actuated chronograph layout with no column wheel, indicating a movement swap |
| case | Ceramic bezel insert fit | Dial-matched ceramic bezel insert set into the unidirectional ratcheted bezel, with firm, even click action through its full range | Loose or uneven bezel action, or an insert color mismatched to the dial |
Common legitimate replacements
- Ceramic bezel inserts can chip on impact and are a common replacement part; verify the insert color and finish match the dial generation.
- Cal. 01 service should be performed by a Breitling-authorized watchmaker familiar with the two-register variant.
