Authentication

World time city ring rotating via pusher must function correctly; it is the primary authentication for the Zurich Weltzeit

Known issues in the market
  • World time complications are rarely faked successfully due to the additional mechanism required
  • Rotating city ring must engage with the correct cities; verify mapping is accurate
  • DUW 5201 is a Nomos in-house world time movement; verify signing and decoration

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Zürich Weltzeit is the Nomos worldtimer: a rotating 24-city outer disc driven by Cal. DUW 5201. The three-ring dial with city disc, 24-hour ring, and central time display is the most complex Nomos dial in production and the primary authentication check.

Known reproduction risks

HIGH RISK

Non-Nomos movement with non-functional city disc

  • City disc that does not rotate when the pusher at 8 is pressed
  • Standard oscillating rotor through caseback
  • Movement without Glashütte stripes

  • Outer rotating city disc with city names in a consistent small sans-serif typeface
  • 24-hour ring inside the city disc, with day (white) and night (dark) sectors clearly marked
  • Central time display with baton or leaf hands for hours and minutes
  • Recessed pusher at 8 o'clock for advancing the city disc
  • "NOMOS Glashütte" at 12 and "MADE IN GERMANY" at 6
  • No traditional railroad track minute ring -- the outer city disc serves this function

Service part flags

City disc and pusher

Original: The city disc is a separate rotating ring sitting above the 24-hour chapter ring. The 24 city names are printed with consistent spacing. The disc advances in 1-hour increments with each press of the 8 o'clock pusher.

Replacement tells
  • City names with inconsistent spacing or any incorrect city in the standard Nomos Weltzeit sequence
  • Disc that advances in increments other than 1-hour clicks
  • City disc that does not advance when the pusher at 8 is pressed
  • Day/night ring that does not rotate independently from the city disc
Movement (Cal. DUW 5201)

Original: Neomatik automatic GMT movement, 21,600 vph (3Hz), 42-hour power reserve. The worldtimer complication adds a 24-hour display to the automatic neomatik base. Exhibition caseback showing flat disc rotor and Glashütte finishing.

Replacement tells
  • Standard oscillating rotor through caseback -- DUW 5201 uses the flat disc neomatik rotor
  • City disc that does not function or is driven by a mechanism other than the 8 o'clock pusher
  • Movement without Glashütte stripes

Case back markings

toggle
2011 to present
  • Ref. 805 (or variant)
  • "DUW 5201" movement designation
  • "NOMOS Glashütte" and "MADE IN GERMANY"
  • 3 ATM water resistance
  • Serial number (6-digit format)

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. DUW 5201 power reserve is 42 hours. Running down overnight indicates insufficient wear or rotor bearing service needed.
  • The city disc pusher at 8 should advance the disc in clean 1-hour increments. Multiple presses without engagement or disc movement that bypasses the click mechanism indicate pusher service is needed.
  • Beat rate is 21,600 vph (3Hz). Seconds hand advances in 1/6-second steps.
