Authentication

The 24h disc and pusher function are the two primary inspection targets on the Overseas Dual Time.

Known issues in the market
  • Non-functional or damaged pushers are common on used examples; both must depress cleanly and return fully.
  • The 24h day/night disc is a service item; erratic rotation or wrong-position disc indicates service need.
AreaWhat to checkWhat is correctRed flag
dial24h disc rotation and positionDay/night disc at 9 rotates exactly once per 24 hours; indicator aligns with correct day/night position for set time zoneErratic disc motion; disc stopped or advancing incorrectly; misalignment between disc position and actual time
crownPusher-operated second time zoneBoth pushers depress cleanly with discrete click; second time zone advances or retards one hour per press; hands return to correct positionPushers that do not depress, stick, or do not return; time zone that does not advance correctly
movementCal. 5110 DT through casebackMaltese cross rotor; Geneva Seal finishing; dual-time module components visibleNon-Maltese rotor; absent finishing; unexpected movement architecture
Common legitimate replacements
  • Pushers are high-wear components; any replaced pushers should match original specification.
  • Integrated bracelet, same verification as all Overseas references.
Expert resources: Vacheron Constantin serial verification. Test the 24h disc against a confirmed time zone: set both time zones and verify disc position matches day/night status after 12 and 24 hours.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Overseas Dual Time uses Cal. 5110 with a second time zone display and a day/night indicator. The second timezone display must advance in 1-hour increments using the corrector at 8 o'clock, and the day/night indicator must be synchronized with the correct hemisphere. The clou de Paris dial is the primary visual authentication check.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

Replica Overseas Dual Time examples with printed hobnail dials and non-functional or incorrectly advancing second timezone displays.

  • Hobnail dial with no tactile texture
  • Second timezone corrector that does not advance cleanly in one-hour increments
  • Day/night indicator that does not correspond correctly to the displayed second timezone hour
  • Caseback without Cal. 5110 designation

  • Second time zone sub-dial at 9 o'clock showing a second set of hours
  • Day/night semi-circle indicator at the second timezone sub-dial

Service part flags

toggle
Clou de Paris dial

Original: Genuine hobnail pyramid texture pressed individually into the dial. Each pyramid must be distinct under magnification with flat top facets and clean intersecting valleys.

Replacement tells
  • Hobnail pattern that is flat or printed with no physical texture
  • Pyramid top facets that appear rounded or blurry rather than cleanly faceted
  • Pattern that degrades or loses definition near the sub-dial opening edges
Second timezone corrector

Original: Push-in corrector at 8 o'clock advances the second timezone hour display in one-hour increments. Each push should produce a clean advance with a positive click. The hour wheel must return to a crisp position with no half-hour intermediate positions.

Replacement tells
  • Corrector that advances the second timezone display in increments other than one hour
  • Second timezone hour hand that lands between positions rather than clicking to the exact hour
  • No corrector present at all; any Overseas Dual Time without this pusher is incorrect or damaged
Interchangeable strap system

Original: Push-button quick-release system for rubber, leather, and steel bracelet straps. Same system as all third-generation Overseas references.

Replacement tells
  • Strap with any lateral play or rattle in the installed position
  • Attachment mechanism requiring a spring bar tool
  • Non-VC straps without the correct push-pin lug hardware

Case back markings

toggle
2016 to present
  • Exhibition caseback displaying Cal. 5110
  • Poincon de Geneve visible on movement surfaces through the caseback
  • 22k gold rotor with Maltese cross
  • Reference 7900V/110A-B546 on the case band
  • 150M water resistance

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 5110 is derived from Cal. 5100 (automatic base) with the dual timezone module. The rotor should be 22k gold with Maltese cross; a steel rotor or differently decorated rotor indicates movement service with non-original parts.
  • The day/night indicator on the second timezone sub-dial must be synchronized: when the second timezone shows a daytime hour, the indicator should show the correct hemisphere. Incorrect synchronization indicates a setting error or a malfunction in the timezone coupling.
  • Power reserve on Cal. 5110 is approximately 40 hours. The 40-hour reserve is shorter than the 5100 base due to the additional timezone module; buyers should not expect 65-hour reserve on this reference.
  • Poincon de Geneve decoration is visible through the exhibition caseback. Cotes de Geneve striping and hand-beveled anglage on the bridges should be consistent with the standard under magnification.
