Authentication

Confirm the caseback reads SPB413 before purchase; the SPB153 and SPB413 share similar dials but differ in case dimensions.

Known issues in the market
  • SPB153 cases are occasionally presented as SPB413; the reference number difference matters for bracelet fit and case dimensions.
  • Aftermarket clasps without Seiko logo are found on bracelet-swapped examples.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Bracelet clasps are replaced with aftermarket options lacking the Seiko signature.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The SPB413 is a 2023 evolution of the Willard re-creation with nylon and rubber strap options replacing the bracelet. The case dimensions and Cal. 6R35 movement are unchanged from the SPB153. The primary authentication difference from the SPB149/SPB153 is the strap configuration and the updated dial printing.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Being a 2023 reference, the SPB413 has less gray market exposure than older Willard variants. The risk is primarily incorrect provenance claims (SPB153 sold as SPB413).

  • Caseback engraved SPB153J1 instead of SPB413J1
  • Bracelet-configured watch sold as if it were the strap-only SPB413 retail

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2023 to presentBlack dial with bold vintage Arabic numerals. Functionally similar to the SPB153 but with updated dial printing in some markets and a green or black colorway. Ships with fabric NATO and rubber strap, no bracelet.
  • Black dial with bold Arabic numerals and heavy lume plots
  • "PROSPEX" and "DIVER'S 200M" designation
  • Date at 3, no magnifier
  • Unidirectional aluminum bezel with vintage pip at 12
  • No bracelet option at original retail; ships with NATO and rubber

Dial

Original: Matte black with bold vintage Arabic numerals. Same design language as the SPB153 but with any updated printing marks for the 2023 production run.

Replacement tells
  • Incorrect font on the Arabic numerals versus the 2023 production standard
  • SPB153 dial with SPB413 caseback (a previous-generation dial swap)
Bezel

Original: Unidirectional aluminum insert, same spec as the SPB153. 120-click action.

Replacement tells
  • Bidirectional rotation
  • Ceramic insert instead of aluminum
Crown

Original: Non-screw-down crown at 4 o'clock, consistent across the Willard re-creation family.

Replacement tells
  • Crown at 3 o'clock, indicating a case swap
Caseback

Original: Solid caseback with SPB413J1 reference number and Seiko S medallion.

Replacement tells
  • SPB153J1 engraving on a watch sold as the SPB413 (earlier production case)

Case back markings

toggle
2023 to present
  • SPB413J1 reference number
  • "DIVER'S 200M" designation
  • Seiko S medallion at the center
  • Cal. 6R35 designation

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 6R35 at 28,800 bph; 70-hour power reserve. Hackable and manually windable.
  • The SPB413 and SPB153 share the same movement. The distinction between them is the caseback engraving and strap configuration, not the movement.
