New York's watchmaking presence in the catalog is Bulova, whose Accutron series was manufactured in New York in the 1960s and 1970s. The Accutron Spaceview and Astronaut references use the electromagnetic tuning-fork movement invented by Max Hetzel in 1953, which regulated time via a 360 Hz vibrating fork rather than a mechanical balance wheel. The Accutron was the most accurate production wristwatch of its era and appeared on early NASA space suits; the tuning-fork movement is now a collectible artifact of American mid-century industrial design.
