Measure or ask. A watch that does not match these is not necessarily wrong, but it is a question worth the answer.

Before anything else

Sinn is not a meaningful counterfeit target, and the 104 is one of its most straightforward watches. The checks worth doing are about the movement and the bezel, not about the watch being genuine.

What to look at

1. case Bezel rotation
   Correct Turns in both directions with a defined click through the full rotation
   Red flag Rotation in one direction only, or a bezel that turns freely with no click
2. movement Caliber SW220-1 day and date quickset
   Correct Both day and date advance independently from the crown and change fully at midnight
   Red flag Either indication failing to quickset, or a changeover spread over more than a few minutes
3. dial Metallic green surface and printing
   Correct Even metallic green across the dial with crisp white printing and no bleed at the edges
   Red flag Blotchy or dulled areas, which on a watch this recent usually means moisture ingress
4. crown Screw-down crown and 200m seal
   Correct Crown threads cleanly and seats fully; the 20 bar rating depends on it
   Red flag Cross-threading or a crown that will not seat, which is both a fault and a water-ingress risk

Known issues on this reference

• The 104 carries a bidirectional pilot's bezel, not a unidirectional dive bezel. A 104 that only turns one way has had its bezel or its click spring changed.
• The Sellita SW220-1 drives both day and date. A quickset that advances the date but not the day, or the reverse, is a movement fault rather than a variant.
• The metallic-green dial is specific to the 104.0131. A green 104 offered under any other product number is a different watch or a mislabelled listing.

Parts that are commonly replaced

• Straps and bracelets are swapped routinely on a 20mm lug width.
• Crystals and crown gaskets are ordinary service parts.

Ask the seller, whatever the watch

• When was it last serviced, by whom, and is there paperwork?
• Has the case ever been polished?
• Which parts are not original to it?
• Do you have the box, papers and the original bracelet or strap?
• Why are you selling it?
• Can I see it in daylight, and can I take a photo of the caseback?
