Which ref to buy

Damasko is a German brand whose primary innovation is a proprietary steel hardening process: their "icehardened" steel achieves a surface hardness of 60 HRC, making it effectively scratch-proof under normal conditions. The DA series is their sport-field line; the steel treatment is the functional differentiator.

  1. 1

DA36: 36mm icehardened steel field watch, ETA 2824, the most wearable Damasko for buyers sensitive to case size.

    The case for it:
The DA36 wears at a vintage-correct 36mm while delivering the icehardened steel surface that no competitor offers at this price. For buyers who wear smaller watches and want maximum scratch resistance in a tool watch, this is the most honest choice.
    Consider instead if:
At 36mm, the Damasko reads as compact for a field watch. The Sinn 556 and similar German tool watches at 38-40mm are more conventional sizing.

  2. 2

DA46: 42mm icehardened steel field watch, ETA 2824, the more contemporary sizing option.

    The case for it:
The DA46 wears at the standard modern field-watch size and gives you the icehardened steel specification with more wrist presence than the DA36.
    Consider instead if:
If 36mm works on your wrist, the DA36 is the more interesting choice historically. The 42mm size is more conventional, which makes the DA36's small-case commitment the more deliberate specification.
