Alarm watches

References in the Grail Atlas catalog carrying the alarm complication.

Mechanical alarm watches are rare and historically tied to two references: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox (1950s-present) and the Vulcain Cricket (worn by US presidents from Truman to Johnson). Modern Memovox automatic references use a separate barrel and crown for the alarm function. The complication is more interesting than useful, the buzzer is loud enough to startle but not to wake.

A mechanical alarm complication adds a second independent mainspring and strike train that triggers a hammer against a gong or caseback at a preset time.
